Exhibition Publication Fellowship
Peripheral Vision Issue No. 7
Modeled upon the independent salons of the 19th and 20th century Parisian avant-garde, Salon 2017 invites American emerging and mid-career visual artists in all disciplines to participate in this curated online exhibition and publication. Artists may submit up to 3 works or projects for consideration, and are encouraged to show work representing their highest creative achievement for each series or project. Curator and Peripheral Vision critic Georgia Erger will draft an exhibition essay to be published in conjunction with journal Issue No. 7. Each Publication Fellow will receive a permanent custom Project page on our Squarespace platform that includes a unique URL, images, a brief statement or project description, biography, and links. Fellows will also receive an Instagram takeover (1 post @peripheralvisionarts) representing the selected work. Salon 2017 content will be distributed via our free email subscription and through our social media accounts.
We strive to make this our most inclusive Publication Fellowship to date and will scale the exhibition to meet artist demand, accommodating 10-25% of applicants. Our objective is to present a cross-section of emerging art in America in all media, by artists from a range of backgrounds and experience levels making significant contributions to contemporary art discourses. This is an ideal opportunity to participate on the platform and introduce your work to an audience that is growing by 100+ followers per day!

Salon 2017 is open to all professional emerging and mid-career artists over the age of 21 living and working in the US. MFA graduate students and 2016 Publication Fellows are welcome to apply; currently enrolled BFA students are not eligible. Preference will be given to artists who do not have the benefit of major gallery representation, major grants, or extensive bibliographies of reviews or catalog essays.
Peripheral Vision Arts awards Publication Fellowships on the basis of merit to those artists with a proven commitment to their craft through a mastery of technique, innovativeness of concept, educational experience, and/or professional practice, and the degree to which the work invites substantive critical inquiry. Our editorial review process is structured to benefit artists at all career stages and experience levels. Artists considering themselves under-recognized or marginalized are especially encouraged to apply.
Peripheral Vision is a digital journal read by arts professionals, curators, admissions committees, and collectors around the world. All journal content is publicly accessible online and distributed via our social media platforms and free email subscription. For many artists, a Peripheral Vision article will be the first substantive critical analysis of their work by a professional critic in a public forum, and may be invaluable to attracting grants, residencies, exhibitions, job offers, or promotions.
