Peripheral Vision is an academic journal of contemporary American art criticism curated through bimonthly open calls. We specialize in building audiences for progressive, critically and socially engaged art that demonstrates the distinctive vision of its creator and makes a significant contribution to contemporary art discourses. Articles average 2000 words, thus allowing us to analyze each artists work in greater depth than traditional exhibition reviews or blog criticism.

An independent, artist-run, digital publication, Peripheral Vision pairs artists with professional critics for the production of academically rigorous essays, interviews, profiles, and curated exhibitions. Our merit-based Publication Fellowships are open to emerging and mid-career American artists working in all visual art genres. Artists seeking critical recognition or considering themselves marginalized by geography, socio-economic status, media specialty, immigrant status, ethnicity, racial or gender identity are especially encouraged to apply.

Launched in 2016, and edited by Texas artist and art historian Scott Gleeson, Peripheral Vision was created to respond to professional artists' need for substantive critical recognition. Since issuing the first call Peripheral Vision Arts has awarded 76 Publication Fellowships and has commissioned over 140,000 words of content. We have thousands of followers across platforms and are growing by 140+ followers per day on Instagram.
