Katherine Spinella is an American artist currently based in Portland, Oregon. Exploring the fallacy of human dominance over nature, Spinella considers life distilled and concentrated into the quiet physicality of objects that are cast away. Spinella uses printmaking, sculpture, and photography as a means of archiving and deconstructing objects and materials in search of their embedded ideological meaning.
Katherine Spinella has been included in exhibitions at Musée de Charmey in Charmey, Switzerland, and Disjecta Contemporary Art Center in Portland, Oregon. Recently, her work has been included in exhibitions at UNA Gallery in Portland; Portland Art Museum; Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon; and Kala Art Institute in Berkeley, California. She has attended residencies at Women’s Studio Workshop, Kala Art Institute, Vermont Studio Center, and in 2017 received a grant from the Oregon Arts Commission. She received her MFA in Interdisciplinary Contemporary Studio Practice with an emphasis in Printmaking, Installation, and Sculpture from the University of Oregon in 2013.
